Inevitably, most of us will have a loved one battle cancer. Some of us may be more fortunate than others, having a local hospital that has the necessary facilities and the funds to manage potential issues. However, many will be less fortunate. Many miles to be travelled, hours, days, or even months away from home, and thousands of dollars spent resulting in a challenging financial position. The unfortunate fact is that a lot of these loved ones could be children.
Many children are diagnosed with cancer each year. It is difficult to imagine what a young child has to go through dealing with such a fight. I feel it is important to support children in this fight and give them the ability to have some fun or happiness added to aid their struggle. Balding for Dollars is a program that supports teen adventures, family outings, survivor education bursaries, research and patient and family support of needs like accommodations, transportation and grocery and gas gift cards.
I am now excited to contribute to the Balding for Dollars by being involved in the Bands, Beers, Barbeque and Balding event, where a group of us will collect donations and shave our heads to donate both hair and money. I sincerely appreciate all contributions, as collectively we will make a difference for thousands of families.
Bands, Barbeque, Beers and Balding was started by Bernie Ryan. He began fundraising in Vancouver for the local racing club. Eventually Balding for Dollars and the Kelowna General Hospital got involved and the Bands, Barbeque, Beers and Balding event was born. To date the event has raised over $535, 000 with 100% of the proceeds being donated. This will be my first year participating in the fundraiser and I am motivated to try and fulfill my goal of $30,000. All donations will be split 50/50 between the two organizations (Joe Anna's House KGH and Balding for Dollars BC Children's Hospital).
Thank you so much for your support
