Please join me in supporting Balding for Dollars.
Balding for Dollars raises community awareness for childhood cancer and blood disorders, provides funding to support the oncology program at BC Children's Hospital, and supports kids and their families throughout their journey.
Funding cancer research & services is a Big Deal! Growing my hair since the pandemic started
took no effort. Ottawa’s Five Man Electrical Band had a hit song in the 70’s entitled Signs - “and the sign said long-haired freaky people need not apply”. Well today I am applying for your
generosity and from the photo you can see I am definitely a long haired freaky person!
Preparing for Balding for Dollars was the perfect pandemic project. I had a reason to
finally have long hair, I got to tell lots of people about why I was growing my hair, and
now I get to ask all of my friends and colleagues to help me help raise money for cancer
research and services.
Every single person who reads this email will know someone or be someone who has
had their life touched by cancer. My dad was a pediatrician and I remember the pall over our house when he lost another patient to cancer. Today many of those same children would be given lifesaving treatments and would go on to lead amazing lives.
Some of you may ask what will Balding for Dollars do with Watt’s grey hair? Natural
grey hair is needed to make wigs for older people who have lost their hair in treatment.
No one wants to see their grandmother wearing a plastic hair clown wig.
Donations – please give what you can, a tax receipt will be issued for every dollar
donated. Walking the walk – I started this fundraising with my own contribution. I thought that an amount equal to my savings in haircuts since the start of the pandemic would be appropriate. Thanks for being a part of my “hair raising” adventure and this great fundraiser!
