Please join us in raising funds for the BC Childrens Hospital Home IV program!
Beatrix Reilly is "bagging peaks" on the North Shore to raise money for BC Children's Hospital Home IV program.
Why BC Childrens Hospital?
In April 2021 9 year old Beatrix fell in the forest and got a cut on her knee. Within 24 hours she was bedridden and developed a rare and severe infection (necrotizing faciitis). Beatrix was in and out of hospital for the next two months. Thanks to the wonderful care she received at BC Childrens Hospital Beatrix is now back to her active and healthy self.
Why Home IV program?
For Beatrix the home IV program was her ticket back to a normal 9 year old life. With the portable IV pump and medication she could go to school, see friends and family, sleep in her own bed, and eat home cooked food. The freedom helped immensely with her recovery both physically and emotionally.
The Home IV program is newly established at BC Childrens Hospital and Beatrix was lucky to have the opportunity to access the services. She would like to help raise money to support other kids to have access to this great program so they too can go home and see friends!
The money raised for the Home IV program will go towards:
- Purchasing equipment (like portable IV pumps) to help educate families while at the hospital
- Developing education materials. Such as: videos of patients performing home IV tasks
- Translation of educational materials
Why Peak Bagging?
Growing up in North Vancouver in an outdoor loving family Beatrix has often had one foot in nature - skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and swimming. Prior to the hospitalization she joined the "Bagger Challenge" and had hoped to climb a number of peaks this summer. With her illness we thought that this would be off the table. But Beatrix had other ideas. Instead she will take this project as a great opportunity to rebuild strength, challenge herself, have fun, and raise money for BC Childrens.
What is the goal?
Beatrix hope to climb 10 peaks this summer and fall (before October 31, 2021) and aim to raise $2,000.
Note: it took a bit of time to get this fundraising page sorted so Beatrix is already half way to her goal. She has bagged five peaks this summer (De Pencier, Suicide Bluffs, Grouse, Dam, and Thunedrbird Ridge). 5 more to go!
Thanks for your support!
