In 2021, as Covid-19 still posed a challenge, we continued to shift our fundraising efforts. We had many participants step up as individuals to fundraise and cut or shave their hair, rallying their communities for donations and utilizing social platforms to share their efforts. We hosted a virtual auction and 50/50 fundraiser that helped us raise $12,000, another community effort with so many amazing items donated from local businesses and individuals. And finally we hosted a DIY Main “event-in-a-box” on the weekend of June 12th so that participants could cut or shave from home (or a salon) and set up their own mini main event to enjoy with family & friends in person or virtually. These efforts plus our Whistler, & Kelowna virtual or hybrid events, and other amazing donations helped us raise over $200,000 for the year.
We are pleased to announce our 2022 Balding for Dollars Main event for our 23rd year of celebrations will be held in-person after almost 2.5 years! We are welcoming past and current BCCH patients and their family members, friends, community members, BCCH staff and all of our supporters back to this event to either shave their heads or cut-their hair to donate, to fundraise, and to cheer on those who are participating and fighting childhood cancer. We will be enjoying the carnival atmosphere, which includes live music, games, special guests, celebrating donors, arts and crafts, photo-ops, and an array of delicious goodies. All of this is in support of kids with cancer and blood disorders in BC, and their families.
The event will be hosted at Beth Israel, just behind the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, and steps away from the hospital on Sunday May 1st, 2022. We hope this will maintain the feel of the community event of years past, while also providing safe access to functional space for our event needs. This space is a mix of indoor/outdoor with about 75% and the majority of event activities taking place outside, regardless of weather (utilizing tents etc.) Please note that at the time of this event, we will be adhering to all government restrictions in place whatever those may be i.e. masking indoors, vaccine passports etc. and we also know there is a chance, though unlikely, that we have to shift the event venue, or to a virtual platform if necessary.
